With the New Year, comes new resolutions. At least one of these always has something to do with health. It’s a powerful step in the right direction that will require extra effort and commitment. Some things to keep in mind
to help you stay on track are being realistic, using health resources and experts, writing goals down, and making the investment of time.

Be Realistic

Once the New Year rolls around, many of us feel excited, but don’t let your enthusiasm lead to setting goals that are beyond your reach. This can lead to an overwhelming feeling of discouragement when goals are not met. Instead of saying “I will work out seven days a week for an hour” start with something like “I will work out four days a week for thirty minutes”. By doing this, you’re setting yourself up for success and leaving room to
increase the goal gradually.

Use Resources

It’s not uncommon to feel alone in your pursuit for better health. After all, there’s a lot of information out there and it can seem daunting. Companies like Hims offer a ton of great resources for hair loss, skin care, and doctor reviewed articles, and discrete consultations to answer any questions you may have. It can also be helpful to check University sites such as Berkeley Wellness to get information on healthy eating, and fitness.

Write It Down

Keeping your goals in your head often leads to them falling on the back burner. You have a lot going on during the day, make it easy on yourself by writing your goals down and putting them somewhere you’ll see every day. The more you read your goals every day, the stronger their imprint within your mind becomes. Invest Time

If you’re serious about becoming healthier, you will have to make a conscious effort to make time. This will require a change to your daily routine. It can be helpful to write this down as well, this will help hold you accountable for making the alteration to your schedule. Most find it easier to include this into an already existing routine. In the morning you might turn the news on while you get ready for work and wait for coffee to brew. Getting up forty minutes earlier to include a thirty minute exercise routine while you watch the news can help the transition seem more natural.

Resolutions can be difficult to stick with. It’s important to remember you’re only human and you may drop the ball here and there. The key is to not get discouraged, seek help and encouragement. You’re not alone in this.
