Goodbye summer! 5 Homemade Body Lotions for Happy Winter Skin,  Winter season is here. Time to pull out those warm sweaters, snuggle inside the quilt and drink mugs after mugs of steaming hot beverages. But the cold weather can also be tough on your skin, leaving it dry. You need to stock up on moisturisers and lock all the goodness of your skin within. But wait; don’t run to pick up commercially available products. Who knows what chemicals they are filled with?

My mantra is simple. If I don’t eat it, I don’t put it on my skin either. I prefer using a homemade body lotion, and there are plenty of easy recipes for you to try.

Here are my top 5 all natural body lotion recipes:

#1 Dried peppermint leaves

This is the most delightful body lotion for winter. I swear by it, and so will you when you try it.

You will need:

-Peppermint leaves

-Rosewater for soaking

-3 tablespoons grated beeswax

-¾ cup coconut or olive oil

-A few drops of your favourite essential oil

Making the lotion:

-Leave the peppermint leaves to soak in the rosewater.

-Mix the beeswax and oil, and warm it in a microwave until it melts.

-Blend the soaked peppermint leaves and a few drops of your favourite essential oil.

-Add the melted wax and oil mixture to this and blend it until it is thick and creamy.

-Transfer to a sterilised glass bottle and use daily for 3 months.

#2 Delicious cocoa butter lotion

Sometimes the best beauty secret recipes can be made in the kitchen, like this next one in my list.

You will need:

-3-4 tablespoons cocoa butter

-3 tablespoons grated beeswax

-1 tablespoon each of sesame oil, olive oil and coconut oil

-Distilled water (as required)

Making the lotion:

-Mix some water and the beeswax and warm it on a low flame until it melts.

-Add the cocoa butter to this and mix it well.

-Slowly mix in all the oils to this.

-Blend it until you get a thick, creamy paste.

-Once it cools, transfer to a jar and use daily.

You can even use glycerin for skin during winters. A mixture of glycerine, water, almond oil and your favourite essential oil make a killer winter moisturizer!

#3 Strawberry and honey moisturiser

‘’With real strawberries’’. ‘’With the goodness of strawberries’’.

Forget all the creams and lotions that promise you all this and less. Instead, why don’t you make your own strawberry and honey moisturiser?

 You will need:

-Lots of strawberries

-A cup of honey

-1-2 teaspoons of olive oil

Making the lotion:

-Eat some strawberries.

-Put a handful of the fruit in a blender and mash it up well.

-Eat some more strawberries.

-Add honey to this puree and blend it again.

-Add the olive oil. (You’ve probably run out of strawberries to eat by now)

-Transfer this to a sterile glass container.

-Keep it refrigerated and use daily.

#4 Egg yolk moisturiser

This is more a moisturising pack than a DIY body lotion, but it rocks!

All you need:

-Yolk of 1 medium sized egg

-1 teaspoon of honey

 Making the pack:

-Crack the egg and separate the yolk from the white.

-Add the honey and mix it well.

-Apply this to your face, neck and arms.

-Let it sit for 10 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water.

#5 Milk lotion

This is the easiest of them all.

You will need:

-2-3 tablespoons of raw milk

-A few drops of rosewater

-Few drops of freshly-squeezed lemon juice

 Making the lotion:

-Mix all the ingredients and apply to your face and neck.

-Wash it off after it dries.

So, which winter body lotion for dry skin will you go for first? If you are looking for a ready cream, I would only recommend Olay.
